Launch of the series

Presentation

Greg Donaldson, VP of corporate communications for the American Cancer Society, at the Atlanta premiere

The premieres of the documentary film series Cancer is... were shown in Geneva and at the headquarters of the American Cancer Society, in Atlanta, on December 2 and 9 respectively. Narrated by George H. W. Bush, the series looks at where we are today in the fight against cancer. The series will be distributed free of charge to television channels worldwide.

Are we making progress towards a cure for cancer? What discoveries will change our approach to cancer? Are anti-tobacco laws making a difference? Does cancer affect developed and developing countries in different ways? Are our politicians giving cancer enough attention? What measures can we take to relieve the sick and prevent this disease occurring in future?
You will find the answers to these questions and many more in the four episodes of Cancer is... . The series, filmed in more than thirty countries on five different continents, is a product of interviews with fifty-two world experts, and the insights gained from meeting those who battle with cancer day in, day out.
The production of Cancer is... would not have been possible without the operational support of major international cancer institutions: IARC, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO); PACT, the Programme for Action on Cancer Therapy (IAEA); the International Union Against Cancer; and the financial means given by the American Cancer Society, Sanofi-Pasteur MSD, and mondofragilis network.
The 4 film series will be made available free of charge to television broadcasters worldwide from February 4 – World Cancer Day.
